2. e.l.f. Studio Cream Eyeliner in Black
“This is one of the creamiest and darkest black gel eyeliners out there. From creating a simple thin line to a going intense when I want a dramatic wing, this is my go-to eyeliner. And it comes with a mini detail eyeliner brush ($3, elfcosmetics.com).” Nina Nesbitt, Howard University
3. Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum
“In the winter my hair can get super dry and brittle. This serum is light but very moisturizing and adds tons of shine. I use it on both straight and curly hairstyles ($7, garnierusa.com).” Nina Nesbitt, Howard University
4. Wet N Wild MegaLast Lipsticks
“These MegaLast lipsticks are super matte and not too drying they are so inexpensive you can try all their bold color shades.” ($2, wetnwildbeauty.com)! Nina Nesbitt, Howard University
5. Aveeno Skin Relief 24-our Moisturizing Lotion
“The number one product that I must have is this Aveeno lotion. This product is amaze balls! I have eczema and during the winter my skin is beyond dry and when I put this on after a bath, my skin stays soft for 24 hours for real ($9, aveeno.com)!” Jacinta Render, Clark Atlanta University
I love pastel colors and the new Sinful Colors Valentine’s Day collection has a fine selection. Sail La Vie, a blue shade and Exotic Green (above) are my favorites. The pigment is beautiful and the brush is user-friendly. Fast forward and I’ve had a full week of wear with minimal chipping. The formula dried quickly, the colors are super vibrant, and went on super smooth. For only about $2 it looks like I had a professional manicure. It’s worth it ladies!
Meet Jasmine Dawson, Clark Atlanta University
By Jacinta Render
Have you ever spotted that one girl on campus who just knows how to pull it together every day? Well hairstylist and makeup artist Jasmine Dawson (@glamsquadjazz), a senior at Clark Atlanta University, is that chick. Not only is her face beat on the daily, she’s also a boss with her own hair business Glam Squad. Her looks are everything and I had to find out how she pulls it all off. Scroll down for my Q&A with the student/entrepreneur.
How long have you been doing hair?
I have been doing hair for about 12 years.
What is your major?
At Clark Atlanta (CAU) I am a dual major, majoring in Fashion Merchandising, as well as Business administration, concentrating in entrepreneurship. I decided to become a dual major because when I graduate I am going to open up a full-services salon along with a boutique, so I decided if I’m going to do both, why not study both business and fashion.
What inspired you to get into the beauty business?
My mom owns several salons throughout the country so I grew up in beauty salons. I also have a love for cosmetology. I began doing hair on my Barbie dolls first and shortly after, I began practicing on actual clients. By the time I was 14 I had my very own clients.
Do you have advice for other students trying to become entrepreneurs while in school?
My advice for other students aspiring to be entrepreneurs is to allow your vision to lead you. Often times, we allow family to lead us, we allow friends to lead us, and we even allow money to lead us, when in actuality we should allow our visions to lead us. If you’re doing something that you love you won’t be worried about the money, it’s going to come; but success sometimes requires separation from certain distractions. Your gift will make room for you, you just have to let it.
Besides doing hair, is there anything else that Glam Squad offers?
GlamSquad is a brand, so aside from the obvious hair and makeup services GlamSquad will soon offer brand consulting, along with our Non-Profit organization “GlamSquad University”, which will target the social, as well as personal improvement, of women and children in urban areas.
